Tooth Extraction

Safe, Gentle Removal When a Tooth Can’t Be Saved

A dental procedure showing a tooth with dental tools cleaning or examining it, surrounded by other teeth and gums.

Hearing that you need a tooth extraction is never easy. It is normal to feel worried about losing a tooth you expected to keep for life or to wonder how your smile will look afterward. At 12 Dentistry, Dr. Pedraum Heydari and our team understand these concerns and are here to support you every step of the way.

When a tooth has a deep cavity, severe infection, or structural damage, removing it may be the healthiest option for your long‑term oral health.

Why a Tooth Extraction May Be Necessary

Dr. Heydari may recommend extraction when:

• A tooth is broken or fractured below the gumline

• Advanced decay has made the tooth impossible to restore

• An infection or abscess is too severe for a root canal

• Wisdom teeth are crowding or damaging surrounding teeth

Whenever possible, we plan your procedure in advance. If you are in pain, we also provide emergency extractions when it is the safest and healthiest choice.

Comfortable, Stress‑Free Tooth Extractions

Your comfort is our priority. We take time to get to know you, understand your concerns, and create an experience that feels calm and supportive.

To ensure a smooth procedure, we use:

• Digital x‑rays and 3‑D cone beam imaging for precise planning

• Strong local anesthetics to fully numb the area

• Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for added relaxation if needed

Before we begin, we check in with you to make sure you feel comfortable. If you need a pause at any point, simply raise your hand and we will stop right away.

Caring for Yourself After an Extraction

Proper aftercare helps ensure a smooth recovery. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day and follow these guidelines:

• Bite gently on the provided gauze for about an hour, replacing it as needed until bleeding stops

• Stick to soft foods such as soup, yogurt, and pudding for the first couple of days

• Avoid drinking through a straw or smoking, since suction can dislodge the protective clot

• Brush your teeth carefully, avoiding the extraction site until it begins to heal

Dr. Heydari will check in with you later in the day to make sure you are recovering well and to answer any questions.
