Gentle, Preventive Care for Growing Smiles

At 12 Dentistry, we know that a child’s early dental experiences shape how they feel about dentistry for years to come. Dr. Pedraum Heydari and our team create a fun, comfortable, and educational environment that helps kids feel safe and excited about caring for their smiles.

We believe in starting early so children can build healthy habits that last into adulthood. With age‑appropriate care and guidance, we help reduce the risk of cavities and teach kids how to keep their teeth strong and healthy.

Your Toddler’s First Dental Visit

Dr. Heydari recommends scheduling your child’s first visit when their first baby tooth appears or by age one. These early appointments are gentle and relaxed. We show your child around the office, introduce them to our friendly team, and help them feel at ease.

If your child is comfortable, we may perform a simple cleaning. If not, that is perfectly fine. We call this a “happy visit” because the goal is to create a positive, no‑pressure experience that encourages confidence and curiosity.

Bringing your child to your own cleaning or having them accompany a sibling can also help them feel more familiar with the dental setting.

Children’s Dental Exams and Cleanings

Baby teeth play an important role in guiding permanent teeth into place, so keeping them healthy is essential. We recommend dental exams and cleanings every six months to monitor your child’s development and catch cavities early.

During these visits, we will:

• Check for signs of decay

• Clean away plaque and tartar

• Review brushing and flossing techniques

• Discuss habits such as bottle‑feeding or thumb‑sucking

We know parents have many questions, and we are always happy to answer them.

As your child grows, their dental needs change. We adjust their care accordingly and may recommend preventive treatments such as sealants and fluoride.

Dental Sealants Protect Healthy Teeth

Molars have deep grooves where bacteria and food particles can collect. A dental sealant is a thin protective coating that seals these grooves and helps prevent cavities for several years.

Sealants are commonly recommended for children, but they can also benefit adults who are at higher risk for decay.

Fluoride for Stronger Teeth

Fluoride strengthens enamel and helps teeth resist cavities. It can also support early repair if a small area of decay begins to form. Fluoride treatments are quick, comfortable, and highly effective for children.

Custom Mouthguards for Active Kids

Children who play sports should wear a mouthguard to protect their teeth and gums from injury. Instead of relying on a store‑bought version, we can create a custom‑fitted mouthguard that offers better comfort and superior protection. A comfortable fit makes it easier for kids to wear it consistently during games and practices.
