Benefits of Dental Implants

We recommend dental implants because we believe that they are the optimal tooth replacement for patients who are good candidates. Implants not only restore function and appearance to your smile but also offer other oral health benefits:

Dental Implants Prevent Bone Loss

Bone loss always follows tooth loss, and dental implants can stop that process from occurring. The strength and integrity of your jawbone rely on the presence of tooth roots that stimulate bone regeneration. When you lose a tooth, this process is disrupted, and bone loss begins to occur. A dental implant placed in the jawbone replicates the former tooth-bone relationship and helps avoid jawbone deterioration.

Implants Protect Surrounding Teeth

A dental implant places an artificial tooth in the gap, preventing adjacent teeth from shifting toward the open space. And because implants preserve jawbone, they can also help prevent further tooth loss.

How We Place Your Dental Implant

A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth that consists of a tiny titanium screw placed in your jawbone and a dental crown that’s visible when you smile. Dr. Ko performs the entire implant procedure, from placement to restoration, here at our South Puyallup dental office, and we don’t need to refer you to a specialist.

Using leading-edge 3-D cone beam imaging technology (CBT), Dr. Ko to find the densest bone in which to place the implant and avoid anatomical structures like sinuses.

After the implant is placed in your jaw, we need to give it time to heal and integrate with the bone and tissue around it. This process can take anywhere from 6-8 months, but our South Puyallup patients tell us that dental implants are worth every minute of the wait!

Caring for Your Dental Implant

A dental implant is an investment—in your time, your money, and your long-term oral health—and caring for it correctly will ensure that you get the most longevity out of it.

There are no special brushing or flossing techniques needed, but if you haven’t been conscientious with your oral hygiene, you will need to step up your efforts.

Gum disease poses the greatest threat to your implant's stability and pairing your at-home hygiene with professional teeth cleanings every six months is the best way to avoid it.
